Some tips that help me....
- Only get involved in the things that you can change, all the unhappy, angry protestors out there... you wont/cant change anything. So why be so militant, the lack of change will only make you angrier and more militant and deeply unhappy. When absorbing information or being on social media I try and follow Socrates triple filter method. "is it true? is it good? is it useful? if no to any... dont burden yourself with information that doesnt help you.
- Downgrade your passion, so diffficult to do, I have always been very passionate about training and helping people. The problem with passion is, if things dont go your way or something comes up to derail you, you will over-react and spiral, stressing about something you cant change. You can be easily upset, depressed and angered by tiny unimportant things. So try and be less passsionate -its tough but can be done be taking action daily to be more objective about your passions.
- Your identity can f@ck you up, If you are one of these people who are all about the job and identify as a trainer, teacher, banker, athlete, manager etc etc. It takes just one negative bit of feedback to seriously put you in a downward loop or depression, for example someone suggests you are a crap trainer or manager your whole world is destroyed and you will potentially fight back by trying to discredit the other party to justify your existence. Instead be about making peoples lives better as much as you can, or something that cant be taken from you. your identity or job is not who you are...
- Work on yourself so many quotes about this, how can you help anybody if you are not in a good place yourself, we are as only as good as our thoughts, hating others destroys us, looking back equals regret and looking too far in the future can equal fear. basically our priority if we want to be a good person, good leader, good manager, good employee must always begin with a mastery of ourselves and some self awareness. Look at personal fitness, health, learning and being charitable towards others for a starter.
- Become Self Aware, I used to teach self awareness as a training session in the UK and it blew me away how many people didnt see how nasty they where, how negative they where, how they had a fixed mindset or how they made others feel bad or nervous. Its something like 3/4 of the population think they are self aware but in reality its just a 1/4 or less. Simply put if you are mean, nasty, grumpy, opinionated, a downer or any other way of being every person you come into contact with you are projecting your garbage onto FACT. "After all projection equals perception".
