There is a growing health epidemic in the UK and this time it’s our pets, it makes sense that as the human obesity epidemic deepens so does that of our furry loved ones. In 2014 a PDSA study claimed that in 5 years fat animals will outstrip healthy ones. It seems like it is happening even faster than that with canine obesity rocketing in the UK.
This is why I have spent some time learning about canine issues and have become the first Canine personal Trainer in the area, perhaps the whole of the UK. Its a similar struggle so I adopt the same strategies for weight loss.
According to the 2016 report by the British Vetinary Association, 60% of vets said that obesity is the biggest concern for dogs and pets in the UK. Being over weight or obese isn’t a healthy position for an animal just like it isnt for a human being.
Please realise that your pooch being heavily overweight leads to the same issues as an overweight human, such as heart disease, breathing difficulties, diabetes and arthritis. The crazy thing is because we feed our dogs we are causing them suffering and early mortality in the name of love....unbeleivable really isnt it?
Providing our dogs bigger portions, too many treats, human food as a special treat, take aways, fry ups and alcohol are slowly killing our pets .”yet - we have all done it”. Also our busy lives can sometimes lead to only giving our dogs 5 or 10 minutes execise each day.... just imagine how fat and ill you would feel if you only stretched your legs for 5 minutes each day?
So there is a real and present danger for your best friend, and something needs to be done.
Ideally this is your job to prioritise better, more time to exercise your dog, calorie controlled healthy food and making a plan. However If you are in overwhelm or dont know where to start...I can help
