I have discussions about this very subject on a daily basis, one of my gym members (no names) recently was telling me i was wrong and that we need an Abs class because these classes and sit ups give you a flat tummy or six pack. If i had a pound for each time i have heard this i would'nt be living in Chester le Street in a 3 bedroom rented house. Nearly everyone wants to get rid of the fat in a specific area of his or her body. When clients tell me they want weight loss, in their minds they are really referring to that specific layer on the hips, thighs, belly or arms. This common feeling shared by people of all shapes and sizes has birthed an almost universal belief that fat can be removed from a problem area by exercising that specific area, for example abdominal work for a six pack....Nooo. Celebs still claim their flat stomachs come from hundreds of crunches, then they bring out an exercise video - the truth in that scenario is more often than not is they have paid for a Personal Trainer and have been getting beasted and nutritionally guided for months. Unfortunately, the promise that you can lose fat on a specific “problem area” by exercising that area is a myth. Also known as “spot training” or “spot reducing”, this myth continues to thrive despite the massive research, which disproves its claim. When we exercise certain areas of our body, such as doing crunches, we will strengthen our abs, but it will not remove fat from our belly. Muscle and fat are made from different material and thus one cannot be turned into the other. Fat is stored on our bodies in a certain order that is determined by gender, genetics and blood flow. When you gain weight, it usually goes to your “problem area”, and when you lose weight, your “problem area” is usually the last area to lose the fat. Consequently, “spot reducing” just leads to newly developed muscles hidden under a layer of fat that just won’t go away. However more muscles are always good as more muscle means more calories used at rest (metabolism). The truth of the matter is the only way to lose fat in a specific area is to lose weight in general. In order to lose weight in general we must increase our exercise and in particular our lean muscle percentage which in return will reduce our fat percentage (start seeing our abdominlas). Exercise routines should incorporate the movement of large muscle groups for efficient calorie burning. As you develop and strengthen muscles, you also become leaner and increase your metabolism. Thankfully, as the weight slowly comes off, you’ll notice the fat on your “problem areas” start to disappear as well. So sit ups and abdominals for a flat tummy? absolutely not, you would be better off doing weighted squats for a flat tummy.( when done properly all of your leg muscles, abdominals and lower back are working together) Set up a free consultation to learn more how to physically and mentally develop yourself. Glenn ( bored of talking about sit ups ) Hill I am always trying my best to help everyone be fitter, healthier and happier. Can i help you? All of the ways as FREE help i will provide for you... Hopefully by now you have got in touch and i have been able to help, if not what is stopping you?
Personal Trainer of the year shortlisted 2014 Glenn Hill (Personal Trainer County Durham) 07983570574 What are the Durham PTs like?So i am looking at helping more people out with my specialist brand of Personal Training but this time in Durham. I have no idea how good, great or bad they are, there are probably some excellent Personal Trainers in Durham, however i am looking into helping more clients in that area. My pond is getting smaller you see, i already have helped so many Cestrians by improving their lives and now it's time to help our friends in Durham. My reputation in my little pond is excellent, but it's time to expand. Hopefully by November i will have been crowned gym based Personal Trainer of the year 2014 at the National Fitness Awards, if not i am still very pleased to be in the top 7 (shortlist). My Personal Training involves a no stone unturned look at the mind/brain and body, i bet some of you are thinking the mind and brain are the same thing? mmm. Today for example as an average day i was just waiting for my PT Client Coreen (who has upper body injuries so we can only train lower limbs) when a gym member came in complaining of an injured back. Some PTs cannot help but because of my Sports Massage and BodyMap background i had removed the painful back within 5 minutes (BOOM). One very impressed gym member and then onto helping my client. Coreen had been working very very hard for a couple of weeks and was stiff so we never carried out exercise today, instead we conducted a BodyMap assessment which within 15 minutes improved all of the mobility and function issues for Coreen. Then we carried out some basic sports massage removing painful nots and then Sports Massage and PNF stretching. Basically my intuition told me that the best thing for my client today would be a (Full Brain and Body MOT) to get everything back to good working order to ensure better results in the future. She left her session feeling amazing and ready for our next one. That is the difference between what i do and what others do. Listen and watch as i explain my method of staying in shape and still having more than the odd beer. teaching the NHS about health in South Tyneside Hospital Personal trainer chester le street So not sent a blog in a while, this one is about me and my grumpy assistant teaching the health professionals about health. I have been giving out some freebies again, this time trying to help a great bunch who are a brilliant resource, the NHS. Nursing staff and other hospital staff are renownded for being over worked and under paid, so i thought it was my duty to help them out. I thought a free plan with some clever knowledge, some short exercise blasts and a great weight loss nutrition plan all of which can be done at home or in the work place. My aim was to help people change a unhealthy habit for healthy ones and if they lose some weight in the process then that is great. So the staff of South Tyneside Hospital have received my chose to lose campaign, done over three different times to ensure i can help as much staff as possible.
They weigh and measure themselves at the start of the challenge and at the end. Ta Da they lose weight, feel great and learn some stuff in the package. Habits hopefully changed for good. Glenn (helping the north east get fit)Hill Check out my page or phone 01913874222 Dont be so rude..

We are still in the planning process, however i have been visiting local weightwatchers groups and talking about the extra benefit of exercise along with what they are already doing. You see adding the right sort of exercise to weight watchers could double or triple the weight loss/ would'nt that be great? The problem as i see it is that lots of the Weightwatchers members are just like my Personal Training Clients. They are a little low in self esteem and confidence and would find joining a normal class a bit daunting and that's the idea behind WWW.
Come along and do an exercise class that is solely designed for Weightwatchers members and only frequented by these members too. Not only can you train with your friends, you can get fit together and build a greater rapor and team. Th class would comprise of big compound exercises that burn a lot of fat, however all of the exercises would have an easy and hard variation to ensure maximum benefit to members. Having real goals is the only real way to sustained fitness. Glenn Hill can help How to get a six pack by eating the right food Personal trainer Glenn Hill - Newcastle 01913874222 So here goes: This blog contains some of my best tips here which will help you get in the shape of your life. Easy tips which you can employ simply. Eat regularly: Eating healthy snacks regularly staves off hunger and stops you gorging on fatty meals. You also stop your body’s natural tendency to store fat when it thinks there’s no food on the way. Five meals is best, then if not four meals and so on. Calories counting: If you want to lose fat you have to burn off more calories through exercise and activity than you are consuming with food. The average amount of calories a day we burn just to stay alive is between 1500-2500, this is your basal metabolic rate, the energy you use no matter what you’re doing, even when sleeping, than add any extra burnt off through exercise. If you eat 500 calories less per day, you will lose around a pound of fat per week. You can use a great app download called myfitnesspal which tells you the calories in food and helps track food and weight. Protein: Protein is vital for repairing muscles damaged by exercise and making them stronger again. It also takes more energy to process than other foods, so it’s less likely to be turned into fat. Aim to eat 1g of protein per kilo of body weight per day, 2g if you are doing some serious Bodybuilding. Good sources include meat, fish, eggs and dairy. Eat Leafy Greens: when you exercise you put a lot of strain on your body’s immune system. It can be kept in the best condition possible with the antioxidants found in leafy greens and dark coloured fruits and vegetables. Drink Water: Water is very important to keep you hydrated during exercise but it also helps to stave off those hunger pains and prevents the body hanging on to fat stores. Eat the Right Fats: Your body actually needs fat to function properly, around 30%. Make sure you are getting the healthy kind such as those found in fish, olive oil, nuts and seeds. Limit your intake of artery-clogging saturated fats found in red meat and trans fatty acids found in processed foods such as cakes and biscuits. Drink Green Tea: Green tea has been known to contain a whole host of health-giving properties. One is the ability to help your body digest fat stores. Avoid Alcohol: Alcohol contain empty calories, which means the calories you consume with alcohol go straight into the body without providing any real nutritional or health benefit. Your body has no method of storing alcohol instead it will try and remove the alcohol and during this time your fat burning process is turned off. Avoid Ready Meals: ‘Reduced Fat’ or ‘Low Fat’ this is what the label reads, this often means the product has very little fat but has a loads of sugar and salt instead to add flavor. Sugar is the main reason why we get fat in the first place, it’s the sugar that gets turned to fat in the body that makes us fat and we all know the having to much salt in the diet is bad for us, which can raise your blood pressure, which puts you at increased risk of health problems such as heart disease and stroke. So enjoy some extra help when it comes to losing weight or getting rthe body of your dreams. Personal Trainer Glenn is the number one female weight loss expert in Newcastle and County Durham. If you would like a little help please get in touch: Glenn (health geek) Hill How to get a six pack by eating the right food Why do an elimination diet Certain foods can have a negative or intolerant effect not only to our guts but our whole body. Some of the symptoms and suggested associated symptoms are as follows:
So knowing all of this it's worthwhile finding out if and what foods cause issues within our body. Conducting an elimination diet is a time proven method. Lots of athletes and other individuals have changed their lives and improved their performance by removing foods. How to do an elimination diet Remove an important item like milk and one you can do without like a nut type. Once you have taken the food types out make notes in a diary on how you feel each day with as much information as you can: sleep, energy, mood and skin are just a few. The more restrictive the better at this stage, yes, it’s more work. But, as with most things, the more work, the greater the payoff. To begin with, a good elimination diet will remove gluten, dairy, soy, eggs, corn, pork, beef, chicken, beans/lentils, coffee, citrus fruits, nuts. Reintroduction Some foods are intolerant because we have too many off them and too often so there is no reason we can't eat them again in the future. The aim is to eliminate the foods and then slowly reintroduce them, one at a time, so you can monitor yourself for symptoms. So, at the end of the 3 weeks of elimination, you should reintroduce a single food for a single day only. And then monitor your symptoms for two days. For example, you might decide to reintroduce dairy on a Monday and have a large glass of milk and some cheese on that day. Make a diary and make notes on energy, sleep, mood, skin and any thing else when you remove and when you reintroduce your foods. Even with persistently intolerant foods you can try and introduce 3-9 months later following the normal reintroduction protocol. Good luck folks I am doing an elimination diet myself, let me know how you get on or if you need some help. Glenn(the go to guy) chester le street National chip week is ridiculous and should be banned Personal Trainer Newcastle Well I almost choked today when i heard it was national chip week, i realise we have an affinity with potatoes which have been a staple diet in the UK for decades and that they probably helped us through the great war. However they are not one of our best sources of nutrients or energy. Of all of our vegetables you could argue that the humble potato is the one you should eat less of, you see its a dense vegetable with a lot of calories which are all absorbed. Unlike cauliflower, broccoli etc which are fibrous carbs which per weight have much less calories than potato. The other issue is generally chips are deep fried, or fried using one of the less healthy fats and normally covered in salt and vinegar. Chips are often and normally eaten with the other blacklisted foods such as ready made meals, burgers, pies, monster mixed grills and deep fried mars bars etc........well you get the idea. If you had a small amount of chips oven cooked with broccoli and other steamed veg with a chicken breast then it wouldn't be too bad, however that's just not how it goes. NOT PART OF THE SOLUTION So last time i checked the UK was the second most obese country in the world, the North East the second most obese area in Europe, North east is runner up in UK for child-hood obesity and diabetes and County Durham and Easington in particular was one of the most unhealthy places to live in Europe. And we promote chip week and how awesome chips are all over the North Easts own "Real Radio" - "mmm good move. Atleast at Ladies at Leisure you get the truth So if i was in charge (god forbid) i would have holidays and weeks listed below:
