Personal Trainers are a joke - blog about the misconceptions of what we really do and the ridiculous picture adverts on social media.

Just saying that most of the adverts for personal trainers just doesn’t do a good PT justice and gives the wrong idea.  for example in this picture the PT is getting ready to grab the clients shoulder & lower back or is he asking his client to engage the core and bring his back up, I would think that protecting the kettlebells from sliding on that wood floor injuring his client would be a better use of his hands lol.  Now the guy in the picture is probably an awesome PT, but for some reason PTs always seem to orchestrate some bizarre picture either touching their clients or  bringing their hands near to a part of their clients body trying to highlight something.

Its just absolute BS really, we might touch or point to a body part to draw attention to a muscle, group or vertebrae or even to ensure a joint is in a safe area.  But for 60 minutes this might be a tiny part of the session only.  Maybe some novice coaches might spend a lot of time shadowing, protecting or touching their client but they soon learn to  grow out of that.

Every advert recently I have noticed on social media has a Personal Trainer concocting some weird orchestrated position for themselves and their clients.... Its giviing out a message thats all we do! touch up our clients.??  we don’t all do that lol!!

I am going to explain the truth about vitamins and the fact that most of us aren’t having enough, which will be having a contribution towards ill health.  I will also explain what each vitamin does, you can use this to notice symptoms within yourselves and then maybe consider supplementing with a vitamin or mineral.   Vitamins are organic micro-nutrients that act like a spark plug in the body to keep us functioning well or “tuned up” these are needed for growth, vitality, resistance to disease and healthy ageing.
 
Supplementation of these doesn’t fix issues overnight, vitamins fill our deepest nutritional gaps and the fixes and regenerations can take as long as the health decline did in the first place.
 
Every recent study since the 1980s has concluded that even though people believe that they are eating a well balanced diet they are often well below the RDA (recommended daily allowance) for vitamins and minerals.  If you then consider that the RDAs are well outdated and are just set to reduce the chances of classic wartime diseases like rickets and scurvy and definitely not set for optimum health. 
A classic example is Vit D (also a hormone) made in the skin with the presence of sunlight with a RDA of 5mcg which might be enough to prevent rickets but 10x less than what people actually need for good health …50mcg.  The upper amount confers to the lowest risk of heart disease, cancer and osteoporosis.  Interestingly Vit D is linked to good health, better mood, happiness and increased libido.
 
To increase Vit D just get some more sun, especially between 12-3pm in the summer months or a couple of short 4 minute blasts on a sunbed twice weekly.  Take vit D & A together or as part of a multi vitamin if you are supplementing, people with depression in the winter months should consider an increase to vit D.

Firstly just because you are over 30/40/50/60 you don’t have to be stuck with the body you have! Fact, I honestly promise you.

Creatine and vegetarians

Glenn is talking about creatine, why we need it and individuals who may need to use extra creatine.  Creatine is an anti catabolic fuel that is created in the body and is used to fuel  high intensity exercise. 

Creatine is found in beef, pork, fish and supplementation.  Has been proven through decades of testing to improve faster muscle contraction and making extra ATP or energy.  As much as we all have creatine within the body especially if we eat a balanced diet, most people can benefit greatly through using creatine.   Sports people, body builders can all seriously improve performance, results and increase muscle growth  by using creatine.

No longer as popular as it once was, due partly to a list of negative side effects if you use too much, especially when added to other supplements such as caffeine.  Still safe when used correctly at a low dose of 5 grams each time.

  • 80-100% is readily absorbed
  • up to 70% is phosphorilated into cell
  • up to 40% is left as free creatine, immediate use

The summer holiday season is almost over and as usual loads of local lads and lasses are trying to ditch their holiday excess flab.  It seems like a never ending cycle for most of weight loss training & dieting before holiday, huge weight gain on our holidays & depression and attempted weight loss again after.  

This constant yoyo dieting can only negatively effect our metabolisms and make exercise & healthy eating seem like torture.   We already have the difficulty  of shedding the UK average of 6-8lb of Cristmas flab every year.  It has been proven time and time again that the best way to REMAIN fit and healthy is steady continuous exercise and eating real food.

So little (holidays) exercise breaks abusing our bodies for 7-14 days 3 or four times a year just leads to unhealthy diets, unhappiness, binges and a slower metabolism in the end, which can sometimes lead to metabolic syndrome later on in life. (metabolism which loses the ability to function well, storing and holding onto excess fat).

I am joining the team to complete 22 million press ups/push ups in order to raise awereness for ex military who have struggled with what they have seen and done and end up commiting suicide.  Only ex forces can know the struggle, but i am sure everyone can emphathise with the mental health problems associated with military life.

So why 22 press ups or push ups as the yanks call them......

So on social media, Facebook and Twitter you video yourself doing 22 press ups for 22 days.  Each day you can nominate a friend.  Please on your comments explain why you are doing it and the state #22pushups for #22kill and then the 22kill website will add your press ups to the total.

​The benefit is if you nominate a person, you are reminding everyone about the soldiers and their struggles and you are helping the nominee to get fitter be doing loads of press ups.
