Personal Trainer Glenn Hill Talking about the crap that they put in our food
PT Durham 07983570574
Picture
Just been watching a video on social engineering and how agriculture and the food industry have totally changed the way we eat, for example more processed foods and fast food takeaways.   Making people think they are too busy to cook and therefore we should eat takeaways and quick processed meals.

Just look look at the way all of the junk food, processed foods which are at eye level in the supermarket and the healthier stuff is hard to find, or even the amount of processed refined foods compared to organic or veg, salad and unprocessed meat and fish.
Something like 75% processed crap and 25% REAL food, lets be clear all the processed foods which can last for months due to additives and preservatives are not real food and are all poisoning us slowly.

Look at the pic above of the 6 year old macdonalds meal, it looks the same today as it did when it was made in 2009.  Full of chemical preservatives which we eat this and give to our kids.

Think about all the adverts for processed foods, busy mum or dad just getting through the door from work and just too tired to cook: boom big family bucket KFC, order from just eat and such like, i have done the just eat thing loads lol.

Through advertising and marketing we are being socially engineered into eating really bad foods that ARE making us fat, slow, unwell, stupid and we still beleive its healthy.  Thats what the advert says so it must be true: special K is not a flippin health food it’s a processed heavily refined carb which i wouldnt feed to my pooch.

We/ Food Industry/Agriculture are causing the health epidemic its something like in western countries 70% of the billions spent in the health service are spent treating ailments that are totally preventable, type 2 diabetes, obesity etc.  So why are the Government who know this not doing something about it? conspiracy theories concerning pharmaceutical companies? who knows but i am not getting involved.

Watch atleast the first part of this video about industry cooking your food “macdonalds chips, it’s unbelievable” then read the rest of my blog on the evil crap in your food.

Poo sticks and Scrambling-PT bannatynes

Personal Trainer and coach Glenn Hill talks about Poo Sticks and such like.

I told my partner Hels’ that i had being playing Poo sticks with my clients and she was totally bemused, mainly because she doesn’t know what poo sticks is all about?

I thought everyone had played this wonderful game? basically throwing some sticks into moving water and seeing whos stick gets to a certain point in the shortest time, a deadwood race if you will.

This blog is all about the extra things that you can do to improve a client in as many ways as you can.  I come from an miltary and adventure training background and fully understand the health and life benefits of “Scaring” a client a little sometimes.

So obviously poo sticks never scared my clients, but doing a little scrambling (lateral climbing without ropes) does.  No real danger here as i am bellow them and they are never very high, but they feel fear, danger and afterward a sense of excitement and achievement. These particular clients are young children and as well as trying to instill healthy exercise and eating habits i am also trying to remove a number of irrational fears that they all ready have.

The reason

It is a shame to see adults that are scared of everything, the outdoors, water, dogs, heights and everything in between it reduces opportunities and fun.  The best time to reframe attitudes and remove fears towards certain elements is during childhood, thats what my training is all about total inclusive training that really changes lives.

There is a curve that outdoor coaches use called the performance curve, sometimes called the catastrophe curve/scale.  It’s a scale that understands that by overcoming fears by being placed in certain risks and experiencing fear you develop as a person and eventually even enjoy taking risks etc.

For example kids that have never fallen of a bike, camped out, fell out of a tree, walked up a hill, swam in a river end up being these adults that are scared of everything apart what they are used to (this is called their comfort zone).   By exposing kids/adults to controlled risk their comfort zones or area of self efficacy becomes huge and they become well rounded individuals that understand risk, fear, excitement, danger and can decide better what is really dangerous and what is just a irrational rubbish fear.

No risks or fear your comfort zone will just be in your HOUSE and WORK!!

Try everything and your comfort zone will be the WORLD!!

I have previously taken PT clients that have a reduced comfort zone, mountain biking, hiking, scrambling, into the woods orienteering and map reading and evrything in between.

Some of the immediate benefits of a little risk and fear for adult clients is a seemingly improved confidence and happiness.

If needed with the qualifications I hold I couldtake them kayaking, canoeing, skiing, snowboarding or even just playing poo sticks at the river.

10 things to consider when hiring a Personal Trainer?

10 things to consider when hiring a Personal Trainer? | Co Durham

07983570574 - Glenn Hill

“Shortlisted as Gym Based Personal Trainer of the year 2014 and 2015 - Glenn Hill (Bannatynes Riverside)”

This is just about Personal Trainers and some things you should look for when hiring or keeping one?

Some common sense things to notice that seperate an average - good and bad exercise professional.

Everyone is different and even the best PT might not be able to help you, having good rapport with your PT is one of the most important things. You will work harder for someone you like and respect and will under perform for someone who you just dont like!!

There is only a few weeks now until the festive period and each year the average amount of weight we put on during that period goes up by roughly 1 pound,  so 7lb  in 2013, 8lb in 2014 and this year around 9lb.  Yikes, for those that would like a little help hiring or keeping a PT follow the steps below:

The list below can be used to select the best exercise professional for you, if they tick all of the boxes below.....hire that man or woman.

10 Things to Consider When Hiring a Personal trainer

  1. Price tag - If your Personal Trainer charges you about £15-£25 an hour they dont even value their own services.  How can you expect a great service for £15?  to be a good/great Personal Trainer they should be constantly investing in their own ability and knowledge from courses on nutrition, sports massage, mind set, olympic lifting, neurology, crossfit, language, business, marketing and everything else in between.
  2. Blogging - If a Personal Trainer isn’t blogging that means he/she isnt reading, learning and developing and isn’t that current.  A blog is also a way of helping lots of other individuals who need help but who cant afford personal training.   Does your PT have a youtube blog, Website, Facebook page, Blogging site or Email blog?                                                 Maybe read some of their stuff to see if you like their language and personality.
  3. Variation - If you see the local Personal Trainer delivering the exact same session every day or just following one training method, for example kettlebells, this means they are potentially a one trick pony.  Variation is the key to ensuring your neurology and body doesnt adapt to the training and you keep getting results, and you dont get bored.  Is your PT a one trick pony???  does he or she just lift and take angry selfies of themselves lol (check out their facebook pages, if its just naked torso pictures steer clear).
  4. Personal Service - Some Personal Trainers spend most the session chatting and flirting with other gym members, if they do it’s time to say godbye and time for a better trainer or coach.  You pay good money for a coach and they should totally focussed on you and your coaching during the session.   Do they keep looking at their watch or the gym clock?  tut tut if they do.
  5. Class Instructor- A Personal Trainer and a Fitness Class Instructor are two different things, most of the top Personal Trainers just do 1 on 1 coaching and this will be the focuss of all of their study and development.  This works both ways as most of the top class instructors do mainly classes and go on class courses to teach more classes such as metafit, spinning, les mills etc.    If you would like to hire a great PT they really shouldn’t be taking endless classes, instead they will probably be attending courses that benefit one person (the client)
  6. Goal setting  - Goal setting is an important part of Personal Training and life in general, without a goal or an aim you are aimless.  Especially when you are after certain results or landmarks you need to have goals.  These could be something like run a mile in 6 weeks time, complete 10 full press ups in a months time or  fit into an item of clothing.  Some Personal Trainers including myself invest in courses  in mindset including neuro linguistic programming or MindMap(Dax Moy) this will help them really understand you and communicate better.
  7. Nutrition Support - Lots of trainers just train and dont even look at your nutrition (two large studies in the US suggest that the weight loss without food changes is minuscule).  Personal Trainers are not dieticians but can attend nutrition courses, if your trainer hasnt completed a nutrition course or read a number of books on nutrition how can he/she be trusted when advising you.  I offer a free consultation with a nutritionist as part of all my PT packages.
  8. Personal Development -  If you are looking for a PT firstly find their website/poster or information and look at what they are doing to make themselves a better trainer for their clients.  Have a look to see what courses they have done, if it’s mainly  fitness class courses then they are more of a fitness instructor and if its courses that can improve the mind, nutrition, goal setting, rehab, function and flexibility they will definitely be a real Personal Trainer.
  9. Branding/Website - just because a PT doesnt have branded clothing or a website doesnt mean they are unprofessional.  However a lack of both could mean that being a trainer is just a part time job for them or a hobby, there is a growing number of failed PTs that do other jobs and take some fitness. I think around 80-90% of individuals that qualify as a Personal Trainer dont make it into a successful profession, ask your trainer how long he/she has been doing it for.
  10. Extras - Not all Good Personal Trainers give extras and that is fine: this is what my PT clients all receive:
  • An online home training app that is personal to them with loads of blogs, videos and workouts that can be done anywhere.
  • A useful mind hack a Flipband(Plastic Wristband Simple Yet Powerful) , this is a visual and kinaesthetic anchor to remind them to do their daily goal in order to create a healthy habit of exercise, nutrition or mindset.
  • A free consultation with Nutritionist Pam Rae, in addition to the diet advice and support I provide as usual I provide that little bit more.
  • My healthy recipe book “a soldiers recipe for fitness”.
  • A minimum of 1 training t-shirt, the longer my clients stay the more training clothing they receive “thats only fair”.
  • eBooks on Metabolism, Motivation and Alcohol.
  • Free access to my very own Army Para Style Bootcamp.
  • Loads of team events (goals) and training for Tough Mudders, Half Marathons, Toughest etc.
  • Sports Massage and rehab as part of their packages.
  • Adventure Coaching as and when needed.

Basically a Personal Trainer should be thinking of as many ways as he/she can to help you with everything from your fitness, weight, home life, work, family to buying a car and everything in between.

Good luck finding your ideal Personal Trainer, they can be amazing and really help you, but they can also be a guy with big biceps that likes taking your money.

what made us human will keep us human - PT Durham

Coach Glenn talks evolution and health | PT Durham | 0798357057

Picture
A couple of years ago i started researching ill health linked to evolution and all caveman related stuff, and wow the more you delve the more you understand and see how we are ruining our selves by forgeting our routes.

As for the heading “what made us human will keep us human” well the food, drink, medicines etc are not what made us human and are the foundation of nearly all ill health if not all.

What a brash statement!!

A long term study done on a cell (we are made from these) concluded with the cell of a chicken living for 20 plus years which is much longer than the chickens normal life span.  The cell in-fact never died the study proved it’s point and was terminated, if a cell is kept in the correct conditions it can live indefinitely, so living in a sollution without strong acids, alkalis.  It’s when our bodies are too acidic that disease spreads.

We need to keep our body in the PH neutral or close condition to aid our bodies natural immune system and fight disease.

So if we eat and drink the things that are low in acids and chemicals our bodies will be much less likely to catch and spread disease, basically - the food our ancestors ate kept them healthy. This does however mean avoiding processed foods, and instead eating total organic foods and filtered waters, you see modern agriculture/shopping are some of the biggest issues that face us today.

(Nearly everything in the supermarket has had chemicals added at some stage in the process, either early on in the farmers field to prevent insects etc or later on in a factory to aid shelf life).

Even most of the meat we consume has been altered with the wrong feed including hormones and chemicals to ensure a plump beast (plump but unhealthy, diseased, shorter life span and stressed)

Agriculture - Supermarkets (introductions of unhealthy modern processes and food stuffs)

  • White sugar used after 1800
  • Potatoes after 1750
  • Highly processed foods(mostly after 1800)
  • Pesticides after 1930
  • Radioactive foods after 1945
  •  Artificial/ synthetic additives mostly after 1950

80% of foods in the supermarkets never existed 100 years ago, also around 80% is carbohydrate based, when we should only be eating around 30-50% carbs as part fo a healthy diet.  Likewise around 80% is packaged for long life (additives for shelf life)

Top tip taken from Nutritionists, research and experience

** the quicker a food spoils the more nutritious it is, eat food in it’s natural state.  Just see how quick organic produce goes off compared to non organic.**

But Glenn we are living longer than ever before? - from time to time i hear that we are healthier than ever before: JUST NOT TRUE

Cambridge University experts say that humans are past their peak and that modern day people are 10% smaller and shorter than their hunter gatherer ancestors, this decline has happened over the past 10,000 years.

Some experts have claimed that brain capacity is actually decreasing due to the reduction in omega 3 consumption, which has been estimated to be as  much as 80%.

What can we do / eat?

  1. Eat plenty of lean meat and fish, organic as often as you can.  Game is great and very healthy (venison etc).
  2. Filtered water, lots of it.
  3. Green leafy veg and fruit, organic is best (get an allotment- great way of living longer, the health benefits of vitamin D and fresh air and work).
  4. Get outside as often as you can, the vitamin D from the sun, fresh air, nature the earth will recharge your batteries and make you feel invincible.
  5. AVOID PACKAGED, PROCESSED FOODS WHERE POSSIBLE

Trust the 100.000 generations as a hunter gatherer, it’s a problem manufactured in 500 generations of agriculture and 10 generations of industry.

“No caveman or woman suffered with type 2 diabetes, obesity, stress or osteo arthritis”
