Fat Personal Trainer in Durham

As the title suggests - Glenn Hill is now a fat Personal Trainer?

The reason i am telling you this is because i am currently carrying an Army
Parachuting injury : compression at the base of my spine and ribs.
Most people would take this an awful thing however i am using it
as an experiment to see how people feel when they eat the wrong
sorts of food and don't exercise.

The idea here is to have a much better understanding of how my
tribe, clients and public feel when they are living an unhealthy
life in order to be able to associate and help them more
empathetically.

Also to prove that you can change the way you look and feel pretty
quickly if you are strict with nutrition and are motivated.

I can't train yet so i have decided to eat the foods i would
normally avoid or reserve for the odd occasion and drink too much
alcohol in order to GET FAT(Boom mental lol)

So far two weeks in and i allready have a little pot belly, but
more importantly this is how i feel:

1.  I have started to feel a little down, almost depressed and sad.

2.  A total lack of energy and motivation, can't be bothered to go
into work or do exercise.

3.  My sleeping has got worse.

4.  I am getting told that i look pale.

5.  Lots of aches and pains in places that i don't normally have
them.

6.  Prefer to spend time in the house or just dont feel motivated
enough to get outside.

7.  I am noticing that my t-shirts dont fit well because of my
belly, having to really hold my gut in.

Basically i am feeling rubbish and the thing here is if you
constantly make the wrong food choices and avoid exercise this is
what you are doing TO YOURSELVES.

YOU WONT KNOW BECAUSE YOU ARE USED TO FEELING CRAP - ITS NORMAL FOR
YOU!

What's happening to me then?

The lack of the correct nutrients ensures your body doesn't
function well and you dont create enough energy for optimal life.
The extra toxin and chemical intake ensures extra fat cell
production because it's the fat cells and tissue where toxins are
stored.

When your body has a high chemical, PH and toxin level your body
has a weakened immune system and is more suseptable to disease, it
has been proven that the PH or acid level of a cell effects the
life of a cell.  So if you are constantly full of toxins like most
people these days you will live a shorter unhealthier life than
that of some one who is PH neutral or even alkali.

Eating certain greens and avoiding alcohol will help with being PH
neutral or being balanced.

The extra calories and the type of calories I.E processed
carbohydrates are easily and quickly stored as fat and negatively
effecting my bodies hormonal balance, another reason i am tired and
grumpy.

Our bodies haven't got a storage facility for alcohol so after a
few pints our number 1 priority is to remove the alcohol and while
this is happening other functions dont work or dont work as well,
for example fat loss simply isn't going on when you are hung over.

Again a hang over is your body trying to ditch the alcohol and
during this time again we are much more suseptable to illness and
disease, alcohol is normally highly acidic too (high PH).

The slight change in weight, the hormonal damage, the lack of
nutrients, reduction of blood flow to tissues and joints and the
fact our reptilian brain thinks it's under threat (CNS - central
nervous system) are all factors contributing the pain and tiredness
of joints and muscles.

Feeling threated and having poor nutrition and feeling stressed
will be placing my body into its sympathetic nervous system more
often.  This is our flight or fight response mode, okay for short
bursts to escape danger or to win a 100m sprint, but catastrophic
for normal life this really does effect everything and everything.
Increased fat storing hormone cortisol and less and less time in
the rebuild and rest nervous system, if you are not spending time
in the para sympathetic system (rest system) them your body just
isn't repairing itself.

Too long in the wrong nervous system is litterally curtains, have
you ever noticed the rapid deterioration of a friend or family
member during a very stressful episode? its because they are not
repairing their body.

ITS A LOT OF NEGATIVE STUFF ISNT IT? JUST BY LIVING AN UNHEALTHY
LIFE

So i am doing this for a good reason, but it's not something to be
taken lightly.  Eating too many claories increases fat cells and
these FAT CELLS NEVER GO AWAY.  When i get back to an excellent
shape and feel healthy i will still have the extra fat cells, only
they will be empty.  So when you are thinking oh i will start my
new exercise regime next week you could be adding new PERMANENT fat
cells.

Well hopefully i have scared you enough and past on enough
knowledge to keep you interested, please keep your eyes peeled for
the before and after pics and the full story once i have got back
down to my racing weight.

NLP
Talking to help my PT clients

Hey guys, girls todays blog is all about the next weapon in my arsenal for fitness and fat loss, NLP.  This is something i use a small amount with my clients already with  success, but something i am keen to master so i can help people even more than before.

I have spent loads on my career development and thats' what people pay for when they come to me: an expert not just another vanilla Personal Trainer.  I have booked myself onto another course, this time to become an NLP practitioner - it's not cheap but the rewards and results for my clients even better.

NLP or neuro linguistic programing has been used for a number of years in getting the best from people, from sorting out issues in big business, helping the United Nations work together, marriage counciling  or just getting the best out of coversations and people.

NLP has been variously described as the technology of the mind, the science of achievement, and the study of success. It is based upon the search for and the study of the factors which account for either success or failure in human performance.  For over thirty years NLP explorers have studied or ‘modelled’ the behaviour and thinking styles of particularly effective and successful people in business, education, sales, therapy, sport, and personal development.

So understanding an individual and what causes or stops success is very important and in a Personal Training mind set, helping an individual learn all of the characteristics and habits of success to insure SUCCESS in their weight loss battle.

Because weight loss or putting on muscle is largely in your head, get your head in the right place and everything else falls into place.

I am not a fully qualified NLP practitioner just yet, but i do practice the best i can and early next year.  If you would like any help in getting your head into the right place for weight loss then drop me a line.

Durham PT- Nervous sytem effects your work

Your Nervous system is ruling your life and effecting your work life.

Probably the most important thing to understand in life.

Personal Trainer Durham | Nervous system effecting your work | 07983570574

Coach Glenn talks about how your nervous system can be ruining your life by ruining your job, this is a long one but worth a read i think.

Firstly what is the Nervous  System?

Our nervous system has two separate parts.

The Voluntary and the Autonomic System.

The Voluntary system
This is involved and enables movement and sensation.  When we lift our hand up it's the voluntary nervous system coming into action and lots of nerves (motor and sensory nerves amongst others) are moving.

The Autonomic System  - this is the one that messes you up
This controls areas which we have little and sometimes no control over.  These include heart rate, digestion of food, blood pressure, etc.  Basically our nerves leave the spine to connect to our major organs and glands.  The nerves either stimulate or inhibit them.

Think of this as the oldest part of your brain which we share with less inteligent creatures who just want to eat and have sex , not soldiers cheeky i am talking about  crocodiles and such like.  This part of our brain is sometimes referred to as our lizard or reptilian brain.

Personal Trainer Durham - NFA trainer of the year shortlisted talks about going the extra mile.

Hey crew, currently i am away learning how to toss myself out of a perfectly good plane in order to finish something i started 5 years ago.  I had always had an aspiration to get some wings (become an Army Paratrooper) but other things came up during my Army career like partying, two Army Diver courses, two physical training instructor courses, promotion courses and adventure coaching courses.

Anyway as a 34 year old and the oldest on any of my courses, i attended and passed the Royal Engineer Para conditioning course, the Pre Para course and then P company as champion Para.  Pretty much a year out of my life training and getting physically tested at my limit, but to finish of the process and be allowed to wear a set of revered wings on your Arm you need to pass a Basic Parachute Course BPC (arguably the easiest and less painfull of the processes).

It never hapened for me as each time i turned up at Brize Norton on the course, for different reasons i was sent back.  I then left the Army and this is when i became a Personal Trainer, however i never gave up on the aspiration and joined the Reserve Airborne Engineers in the hope of getting on another jumps course (BPC).

Now this is all about perservering and never giving up in order to get what you want, need or deserve.  It is exactly the same with YOUR fitness or weight loss battle, no one is just going to give you that flat tummy or beach body YOU really must just take it.

By this i mean doing anything and everything in your power to get the exact physique you NEED.

IF THIS MEANS GETTING UP AN HOUR EARLIER - DO IT
HAVING LESS MONEY FOR ALCOHOL AND JUNK DUE TO PAYING YOUR PT OR GYM MEMBERSHIP - DO IT
HAVING TO BEG FAMILY TO BABYSIT SO YOU CAN TRAIN - DO IT
GOING TO THE HORRIBE GASTLY GYM - DO IT
GOING THROUGH A PROCESS THAT REALLY HURTS - DO IT
EATING FOOD YOU DONT REALLY LIKE - DO IT
DITCHING FRIENDS THAT BRING YOU DOWN - DO IT

" HAVE YOU GOT THE MESSAGE - DOOOOOO ITTTTTTT"

Actually all those horrible things like the food, painful exercise, boring gym, early morning exercise can all become a habit that you really love.  I prove this to each and every client i train (they hate exercise) until i train with them and then they become adicted and loooove it.

Lets just say POTENTIALLY soon i could be finally finishing the journey i started 5 whole years ago.

Glenn(penguin) Hill....just ask what this means?

What a planker - Durham health coach

Personal Trainer Durham | Glenn Hill | 07983570574

How long can you hold your plank for? Durham PT

Most of you at home could probably hold your plank for 30 seconds to perhaps even 3 minutes.  Mae Weidongs just held a plank for 4 hours and 26 minutes smashing the previous world record.

This is cool, but why is it important for me? this blog is about results ... or lack of them.  Its all about adapting to the exercise please read on...

This is why you train a lot and stay the same or similar shape.

If you spend hours on the treadmill or any machine, this blog is for YOU.

You see this is how it all works, when Mae started doing planks he would of immediately got a little stronger with neuro adaptation.  His brain working out whats going on and just allowing for a little more strength and endurance.

Later on his brain and body start working hard together to enable the work load and technique to conduct the function, this is the time when we see results.  More muscle action, more signalling and greater EPOC or after burn( more calories used and greater visual physical results).

Early on Mae would have probably been experiencing muscle failure in single figures of minutes and seeing great results, within months Mae could go on for longer and longer without his core muscles failing.

After LOTS and LOTS of plank holding he managed to last over 4 hours before failing (so basically he lasted over four hours before he had a GOOD abdominal workout.

To increase our metabolism (greater fat burning) we should increase our muscle.  To increase our muscle we should be performing multi joint compound exercises done at varying intensities and speeds to FAILURE.

If we look at Mae he can probably hold a plank for two hours and burn hardly ANY calories due his body adapting to the load, muscle firing rates, synchronisation, opposing muscles working together (basically autonomous technique).  Holding a plank is probably as easy as walking for him.

Now then, if you are on the hamsters wheel (treadmill or any cardio machine) for hours or have been doing the same workout for months or years the same thing is happening to you...  hardly any effect in relation to calorie expenditure.

THIS IS A CAUTIONARY TALE

If you keep doing the same thing you will keep getting the same results!!

Follow my simple plan for RESULTS YEHHH

  1. Adaptation hates variation, vary your exercises, loads, techniques, speeds, intervals always.
  2. If we are learning a new technique our bodies and brains are working hard to catch up and it takes a lot out of us.  Around this time our muscles are exploding and we are burning calories like they are going out of fashion.  Think of the exercise you hate the most and do it until its proficient then your next most hated exercise and so on.  YOU WILL HAVE INSANE RESULTS.
  3. Do things that can be related to life PULL, PUSH, DRAG, CLIMB, THROW, CRAWL its what our joints like and it will keep you young and strong.  Functional training doing varied exercises is great fun too.
  4. High intensity and hard work, if you are not puffing, panting and sweating then in my eyes you are not exercising.  Forget about being lady like, if you want RESULTS then train like a cave man or woman.
  5. Avoid things with ingredients lists on them, diet products, weight loss products, fat or sugar free products.  Eat meat and fish and green veg often, eat some fruit and avoid processed foods.  Drink lots of water.
JUST FIVE SIMPLE EXERCISE TRUTHS THAT WILL REALLY WORK

Please follow my advice or phone 07983570574 or pop in for a chat
